Centennial College (Ontario, Canada) trains automotive technicians to diagnose and repair automotive problems. Many of these problems arise in the Electronic Engine
Control systems.

challenge
Demonstrating the many problems that can occur in automotive systems can be difficult and often impossible. There is significant cost in setting up cars in the shop to actually have one or more "faults" and to then train and test the students accordingly. A related challenge is that automotive systems change with each model released. There are of course many auto models and it is not feasible to keep a large inventory of cars for students to practice on each type.

solution
Biographix is providing a simulated automotive environment using the Biographix ISLE technology to allow technicians to practice their diagnostic skills.

The Electronic Engine Control Skills Training Course (EECSTC) provides an Internet-based training course that simulates the components of an automobile's electronic engine control system. Instructors can introduce virtual faults into a number of different engine components that students then attempt to diagnose and repair.

The Biographix Intelligent Agent system tracks the student's actions as the faults are diagnosed and repaired. The system advises the student on proper courses of action throughout the training, and scores and debriefs upon completion.

Throughout the training, the automotive simulation ensures that all components and test equipment respond with real world accuracy according to the faults and actions taken. Components can be removed, disconnected, tested and replaced, and the simulation responds appropriately.

The course is provided through Centennial College's distance learning program using their established Learning Management System (LMS).
