Biographix awarded major e-learning contract with TVO and Centennial College
Toronto, ON - April 3, 2003: Biographix announced today the launch of a major e-learning project with TVOntario and Centennial College. This automotive training course is part of the TVOntario Lifelong Learning Challenge Fund.
"This is exactly what we do best," said Sean Bittle, President and CEO of Biographix, "Our program will be a simulation-based e-learning program coupled with a knowledge-based interface agent.
"Specifically, we'll be building, designing and supporting a content rich online training program focusing on the automotive and transportation service and repair industries," he said.
Nearly a year ago the Ontario Government announced the Lifelong Learning Challenge Fund, $5 million for TVO to develop workplace training delivery in partnership with the private sector. This funding will be used to address the most pressing skills development needs in Ontario, among which is electronic engine control training. Biographix's partner in this online training program is Centennial College's School of Transportation.
"Through the 50-50 matching fund, employers and the automotive industry will have access to the additional resources to promote training and help create access to the skilled workers they need to compete in a global marketplace," said Mr. Bittle. "This is a unique opportunity for each of us and dovetails with our corporate mission 'e-Learning - anytime, anyplace, any platform'."
The Canadian automotive repair and service industry encompasses more than 27,000 retail outlets and more than 200,000 people, more than half of which are in Ontario. On the average, 6,000 automotive apprentices graduate each year in Canada, 40% of whom are Ontarians. Traditionally colleges offer classroom and shop training but computer-based training is on the rise with Centennial College being among the leaders. Centennial College has been offering online distance training in automotive electronics fundamentals since 1998.
